Vulture Psalm from Issue 95
Velvety death, jellied and venous,
unctuous, buttery possums and lemmus,
loose-muscled crumblings of rat kit and dovelet,
tonguefuls of older, chewier mothers,
ruined, ruinous syrups and suets
entered at neck-length, cavernous, chasmal,
pox-riddled, gum-spotted zebu and Brahmin,
sun-maddened, wobble-legged mule deer and mutton.
After the eye-shot, the gyres, the grasping
love as a spasm, a spasm, a spasm
made joyful and joyful to skyward: Hosanna! Hosanna!
